Get to Know Dr. Tran
Dr. Tran was born and raised by Vietnamese-immigrant parents in the San Francisco Bay Area. She grew up loving the idea of becoming a writer and was a student journalist during her undergraduate studies. Upon graduating college, she volunteered on a medical mission to Vietnam. Dr. Tran completed her clinical training at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Los Angeles, Indian Health Hospital in New Mexico, and BG Crawford F. Sams Army Hospital in Japan. After graduating from the Southern California College of Optometry, she moved to New York City and spent most of her career working in ophthalmology practices that were heavily focused on ocular diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye. She has also worked extensively with the pediatric population to manage conditions such as myopia, strabismus and amblyopia. In 2021, Dr. Tran was recognized as one of the Best Optometrists in America by Newsweek.
Dr. Tran continues to hold a strong desire to give back to the community. She participates in the Changing Lives Through Lenses program to provide free eye exams and glasses for underserved populations. She also volunteers in the annual health fair to provide eye care for Special Olympic athletes. Dr. Tran has provided eye exams for rehabilitating patients at the Bowery Clinic and tutored underprivileged children in Chinatown Manhattan. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she sourced and delivered N-95 masks and medical supplies to healthcare providers throughout New York City. Internationally, she has volunteered on four medical mission trips to Haiti, Colombia, and Vietnam.
As an adjunct faculty for SUNY Optometry, Dr. Tran mentors and educates the next generation of optometrists.
